 About XCEP

National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) and the Ministry of Industry have collaborated on the establishment of eXcellent Center for Eco Products (XCEP). The center is expected to play the key role in supporting Thai industry and institutes for the development and enhancement of Eco-products.  Adopting the international standards and regulations in product development process, Thai manufacturers can increase their competency in the world markets.  Furthermore, the center also supports suitable technologies to the industry, so that they can run the environmental friendly businesses, efficiently utilize resources, and go toward sustainability.

Speaker

Prof.Dr. Kun-Mo Lee Dr. Kun-Mo Lee is a renowned expert on Ecodesign, Product Life Cycle Assessment (LCA ), and the European Union’s environmental regulations including the EuP and RoHS directives and IPP. He was born in 18th October, 1952, and was granted BS and MS from the Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea in 1974 and 1978, respectively. In 1985, he received Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, and has worked as a professor in Ajou University, Suwon, Korea since 1989. He served as a Convener of Ecodesign in ISO/TC 207/WG3 [1999-2002] which produced ISO/TR 14062. He was the chairman of both PASC XXIV (2001) and APEC/SCSC (2005), and co-chairs the Trade Facilitation Task Force (TFTF) Committee, dealing with the EU’s product related environmental regulations, of the APEC/SCSC currently. He is also the present chairman of the Korean mirror committee on IEC/TC 111 and worked as an expert to the IEC/TC 111 working group (WG2) on Ecodesign.

He developed Korean LCI database including electricity, metals, and construction materials [1998-2003]. He also organized and provided training on LCA, Ecodesign and EU environmental regulations to representatives from APEC for three consecutive years [2002-2005]. From 2004 till present, he works on the development of Ecodesign methods, means of complying with the Ecodesign requirements of the EuP directive including implementing measures, and Ecoproduct directory database for the Korean E&E industry.

In his career, he published many scientific papers in major international journals and authored several books including three best practice handbooks on EL, LCA and Ecodesign [2002-2005 by APEC], and one textbook entitled “Ecodesign implementation” [2004 by Springer]. He currently coauthor an ecodesign book aimed at the company managers entitled “Ecodesign: competitive advantage” to be published in autumn, 2009 by Springer.

Dr. Lee has given many talks and led many workshops on Ecodesign and the EuP directive, both internationally and in Korea.
