Research Background<\/span><\/h3>

A synthetic lightweight aggregate \u201cG-Rock\u201d is a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>research result developed by MTEC. The research team has\u00a0<\/span>developed the formulation and production process by utilizing\u00a0<\/span>waste materials from various industrial sources within the\u00a0<\/span>country. The selection of raw materials is primarily based on\u00a0<\/span>their chemical composition and then appropriate ceramic\u00a0<\/span>production processes are applied, i.e., a forming process\u00a0<\/span>and a high-temperature sintering process to produce\u00a0<\/span>lightweight granular materials with good thermal insulation\u00a0<\/span>and durability.<\/span><\/p>

At present, the research team has further\u00a0<\/span><\/span>developed \u201cG-Rock\u201d by applying them in the construction\u00a0<\/span>works to solve the heat build-up problems within the\u00a0<\/span>building, as well as the problems of the weight of the building\u00a0<\/span>parts and the cost of transportation and installation, such\u00a0<\/span>as precast concrete walls and floors. The application of\u00a0<\/span>\u201cG-Rock\u201d will help improve the properties of lightweight\u00a0<\/span>concretes for better thermal insulation and reduce their\u00a0<\/span>weight by more than 20%. However, their strength is\u00a0<\/span>comparable to conventional concretes.<\/span><\/p>

Research objectives<\/span><\/h2>

The research team plans to make use of waste\u00a0<\/span><\/span>materials from the domestic industries by developing a\u00a0<\/span>prototype of synthetic lightweight aggregate \u201cG-Rock\u201d at the\u00a0<\/span>industrial level. This aggregate can be mixed with concretes\u00a0<\/span>to improve their properties by reducing its weight and\u00a0<\/span>construction costs, as well as improving its insulation\u00a0<\/span>properties. It can also be applied in various applications\u00a0<\/span>concrete forming applications.<\/span><\/p>

What does the research team do?<\/h2>

The research team has cooperated with a private\u00a0<\/span><\/span>company to design and develop the formulation for the\u00a0<\/span>industrial production processes by using by-products from\u00a0<\/span>various manufacturing industries, such as ashes from the\u00a0<\/span>combustion of biomass fuels and sludge from wastewater\u00a0<\/span>treatment.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
