The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has a mission on the administration of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>systems and regulations of land transport by managing and controlling for compliance\u00a0<\/span>of laws and regulations, as well as coordinating and planning the connection with other\u00a0<\/span>transport systems to ensure that the land transport system is flexible, convenient, fast,\u00a0<\/span>and safe. The Department of Land Transport\u2019s vision is to be an innovative organization in\u00a0<\/span>managing and controlling the road transport system with high quality and safety.<\/span><\/p>

Mr. Cheep Nomsian said that the Automotive Engineering Bureau has the main\u00a0<\/span><\/span>responsibility on the automotive standards by applying the United Nations (UN) standards as a\u00a0<\/span>guideline for developing automotive standards and educating transport operators in Thailand.\u00a0<\/span>The Department of Land Transport, therefore, has cooperated with the agencies that have\u00a0<\/span>expertise in the field of automotive standards and testing.<\/span><\/p>

The Department of Land Transport has a policy to urgently develop the automotive\u00a0<\/span><\/span>standards for trucks and buses to prevent and reduce unexpected accidents. It is clear\u00a0<\/span>from the accident records and empirical evidence from the media on the daily accidents\u00a0<\/span>that severe accidents occur when the trucks are crashed into by other vehicles or buses\u00a0<\/span>with understrergth structure overturn.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

These tragedies are consequences of, <\/span><\/span>the trucks not having protective equipments to <\/span>reduce the severity at the side and rear, as well as <\/span>inadequate design of bus structure. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Automotive Engineering Bureau, DLT, <\/span>therefore, had cooperated with MTEC on the project <\/span>of \u201cThe preparation of the standard design of the <\/span>protective equipment for the sides and rear the <\/span>vehicle used for transporting animals and items\u201d <\/span>and \u201cThe study on the design of the bus structure <\/span>according to the rollover safety standards\u201d <\/span>by applying the requirements of the United Nations <\/span>as a guideline.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Cheep Nomsian said that in order <\/span><\/span>to put law enforcement into practice, all <\/span>stakeholders must be involved from the beginning. <\/span>For both projects that Department of Land <\/span>Transport had cooperated with MTEC, <\/span>representatives from the association of truck <\/span>and bus body builders, transport operators, <\/span>and other stakeholders had been invited as the <\/span>project committees in order to communicate with <\/span>the members, as well as provide critical and useful <\/span>information for the project and the promulgation <\/span>of the law.<\/span><\/p>\n

As MTEC is an organization with well respected <\/span><\/font>research team the Department <\/span>of Land Transport had cooperated with MTEC on law <\/span>enforcement to ensure vehicle safety on the road <\/span>by assigning an engineering team to work with MTEC <\/span>research team. MTEC research team had given the <\/span>Department of Land Transport very good <\/span>suggestions. The team greatly appreciate working <\/span>with MTEC, and the results are in line with the <\/span>operation plan and time. However, there were some <\/span>difficulties due to the COVID-19 situation but both <\/span>teams had efficiently worked together to solve the <\/span>problems.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lastly, the Department of Land Transport <\/span><\/font>wants MTEC to spread awareness about the side <\/span>and rear protective equipment of the trucks and <\/span>the structure standards to the entrepreneurs and <\/span>general public, as well as increase MTEC\u2019s ability <\/span>to become an automotive testing unit conforming <\/span>to international standards to support the <\/span>operations of the Department of Land Transport <\/span>in law enforcement.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
