1. The project titled “Innovation on Production and Automotive Utilization of Biofuels from Non-food Biomass” is a collaborative effort between National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan, Waseda University (WU), Japan, Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), Thailand and MTEC/ NSTDA. The 5-year project (2010-2015) is funded by a Japanese government under Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program.
 
 

          2. The collaborative research project titled “Corrosion Mapping of Structural Materials in Asian Area with Understanding Effects of Environmental Factors” is an effort between MTEC, National Institute for Materials Science and (NIMS), Japan and Institute of Materials Science, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (IMS),Vietnam. The 3-year project (2013-2015) is under the East Asia Science and Innovation Area Joint Research Program (e-Asia JRP).

          3. The Photocatalytic Materials for the Destruction of Recalcitrant Organic Industrial Waste Water is a collaborative project under the European Union’s Seventh Framework Program (FP7). An interdisciplinary consortium of EU and ASEAN researchers was established in an attempt to provide a cost effective solar powered method for mineralizing the recalcitrant organic pollutants that biological methods cannot remove from the industrial waste water, particularly from agricultural and seafood industries, in ASEAN countries and Europe.           4. “The study of Atmospheric Corrosion Behavior of New generation Stainless Steels with Various Surface Conditions Exposed to Thailand's Climate (Phase II)” is a collaborative effort between MTEC and Nippon Steel & Sumikin Stainless Steel Corporation (NSSC), Japan. The project duration is 3 years commencing on June 1, 2012.

          6. Internship Program 2013 between MTEC and Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan.

         9. Collaboration between MTEC / NSTDA and Le Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement (CIRAD), France in the fields of Environmental Management, Agriculture, Food Production and Processing, Animal Disease Control and Biotechnologies.
 
Collaboration between MTEC and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) Malaysia, in the areas of “Internship student” and “Bio-Fuel and Green Processes Development”.
 
 
          11. Biodegradability Testing Lab, National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), Ministry of Science and Technology are accredited to ISO17025 by DIN CERTCO, Germany. The accreditation covers EN 13432 and ASTM D6400 standards where the key components lie in compostable of bioplastics. MTEC’s Biodegradability is the main lab for testing against both EN 13432 and ASTM D6400 standards, with alliances from the laboratories at Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) and Department of Science Service (DSS). The accreditation not only makes the lab the first and only lab accredited in the country, but also the ASEAN region. Testing report issued by the lab of MTEC can be used to file for certification of “Certified Industrial Standard” by Thailand Industrial Standard Institute and by Thai Bioplastics Industry Association and certification by DIN CERTCO.

As the world science and technology is rapidly advanced, Thailand, besides conducting the research and development domestically, need to also establish international cooperation such as co-research programs, technology transfer or staffs exchange between the parties as well as holding conferences and symposium for current technical issues in order to effectively develop science and technology knowledge in the future.

 

         Such international collaboration is important mechanism to drive and support the organization in country relevance, international quality operation and global visibility.

         Even though the progress in science and technology is globally expanded, such advancement and communication is still concentrated among the developed countries. Therefore, so as to raise the level of Thailand science and technology development, international network must be established. The international cooperation, network and alliance will provide an opportunity for exchanging of staffs, knowledge and trend in advanced technology as well as a platform to showcase Thailand science and development in the international community. The roles and recognition in the international forum will strengthen our objectives and create new cooperation.
