The Thailand Materials Science and Technology Conference (abbreviated as MS@T or MSAT) is one of the major series of conferences in materials science, technology, and engineering which has been initiated and organized by the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC). The MSAT conference has been held bi-annually since 2000 and it strives to be an international multidisciplinary conference which aims to provide space for discussion among stakeholders, i.e. academia, research institutes, and industries on their latest findings, novel applications, and technical/marketing challenges.

The first Thailand Materials Science and Technology Conference, MS@T, was held during July 19-20, 2000 at Amari Watergate Bangkok.  There were 168 presentations, consisting of 46 oral presentations and 122 poster presentations.

Some MSAT Conferences had been co-organized with other major events, for example, MS@T III had been organized concurrently with the Thainox Metallurgy Award 2004, the 5^th International Symposium on the 21^st Century COE Program of Nagaoka University of Technology: The 2^nd Workshop on Regional Network Formation for Enhancing Research and Education on Materials Engineering and the 2^nd 21^st Century COE International Symposium on Green Energy Revolution.

Certain critical issue had also been given high priority as the theme of MS@T-5 was “Materials Technology for Climate Change”.

It should be noted that since MSAT-7, the conferences have been repositioned to international conferences. Participants from at least 23 countries, namely, Arab Emirates, Canada, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Japan, Libya, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Portugal, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United State of America, had joined MSAT-7 to MSAT-10. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MSAT-11 be postponed from 2020 to 2022 and held as the first virtual conference.

Over more than two decades, the Materials Science and Technology Conference (MSAT) series has grown from a premier national platform into a globally recognized forum for materials innovation. Each biennial edition has consistently expanded the boundaries of research, bridging the gap between scientific discovery and industrial needs in Thailand and beyond.

A Paradigm Shift: How MSAT-12 Redefined the Series

While previous editions focused heavily on foundational academic excellence, MSAT-12 marked a major turning point that stood out from its predecessors. It broke the traditional mold by explicitly aligning cutting-edge materials research with urgent global and national mandates—specifically targeting transformative themes such as Net Zero & Sustainability, Medical & Health Innovation, and Advanced Manufacturing. MSAT-12 successfully transitioned the conference from a purely celebratory academic gathering into an active catalyst for eco-industrial solutions and high-impact technology transfers.

MSAT-13: 40 Years of Impact & Future Synergy

Entering our 13th edition under the milestone theme “MSAT-13: 40 Years of Impact & Future Synergy,” the conference arrives at a historic moment as we proudly celebrate the 40th anniversary of the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC). For four decades, MTEC has been at the forefront of driving Thailand’s technological advancements, and this year’s theme perfectly captures that enduring legacy of meaningful “Impact” alongside our vision for “Future Synergy.”

Rather than simply repeating past successes, MSAT-13 serves as the strategic continuation and elevation of the breakthroughs achieved during MSAT-12. Backed by MTEC’s 40-year foundation of research excellence, MSAT-13 leverages the robust networks and multidisciplinary collaborations established in the previous edition to dive deeper into practical, real-world deployment. By expanding our thematic scope and strengthening the synergy between public research institutes, academia, and private enterprises, MSAT-13 is uniquely curated to transform the insights of yesterday into the commercial, industrial, and environmental innovations of tomorrow.
