Collaboration with Alliances

MTEC recognizes the importance and necessity of implementing the Circular Economy concept by playing a role in creating knowledge and materials technology that is relevant to the circular economy. This aims to provide  entrepreneurs and consumers accurate knowledge and comprehensive understanding for making appropriate and efficient material choices, ensuring safety for humans and the environment.  MTEC emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate materials and designing products with a long lifespan that can be recycled once they reach the end of their lifespan. Additionally, to develop an efficient and environmentally friendly production process through research and development, focusing on utilizing and extracting value from waste in the agricultural and industrial sectors.

Concrete cooperation activities in circular economy between MTEC and other organizations, both domestic and international, consist of conducting ready-to-use and application-oriented research and playing a supportive role in providing academic information.  Examples of these activites are as follows:

Plastic waste management to reduce pollution in rivers and oceans under the Mekong Plastics Innovation Alliance between Thailand and Australia

MTEC collaborates with The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Australia to jointly implement the Plastic Innovation Hub under the initiative of Indo-Pacific Plastics Innovation Network (IPPIN). The objective is to strengthen research projects and support collaborative approaches between Research-Entrepreneurship-Investment to address plastic waste management.

CSIRO has developed and implemented the Plastics Innovation Hub in collaboration with Indonesia and Vietnam. CSIRO and the organizations in the these countries have collaborated to design, support, and implement activities to promote plastic waste management innovation. Additionally, they have also aimed to strengthen collaboration networks at both the national and Indo-Pacific regional levels.

Currently, CSIRO has a plan to expand its collaboration and operations to the countries in the Mekong region by establishing the Mekong Plastics Innovation Hub. MTEC, acting through Environment Research Group and Advanced Polymer Technology Research Group, has been invited by CSIRO to participate as an operating unit in the Mekong Plastics Innovation Hub in Thailand. The project is scheduled to run from March 30, 2023 to March 30, 2024

Workshop on Data Collection & Impact Assessment” under the project “Carbon Footprint of Renewable Energy for ASEAN Countries”

MTEC, acting through the Technology and Informatics Institute for Sustainability (TIIS), collaborates with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) organized a workshop on Data Collection & Impact Assessment under the project “Carbon Footprint of Renewable Energy for ASEAN Countries”. This project is funded by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) and the workshop was held on 22-24 May 2023 at Pullman Bangkok King Power.

The purpose of the workshop is to exchange knowledge and in-depth information from ASEAN member countries, to create understanding and practical knowledge, and to communicate guidelines for evaluating Carbon Footprint (CF) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of electricity production from biomass and solar energy. Additionally, it is an opportunity to build a collaborative network on renewable energy. There were participants from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), representatives from 10 ASEAN countries and more than 70 participants from both the government and private sectors attending the workshop.
