Executive Summary​

The National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) is aligned with the missions outlined in Version 7.1 of the National Science and Technology Development Agency’s (NSTDA) strategic plan for the fiscal years 2023-2027. This plan is aligned with the 20-Year National Strategy (2018-2037) and various master plans, including the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) Model. The BCG Model aims to propel Thailand’s development by seamlessly integrating bioeconomy, circular economy, and green economy principles. Leveraging technological expertise in materials, manufacturing, design, and engineering, MTEC collaborates with partner organizations to drive impactful economic and societal outcomes, focusing on strategic investments and capitalizing on opportunities presented by advanced technology infrastructure. The Eastern Economic Corridor Innovation Zone (EECi) serves as a catalyst for innovation, fostering an infrastructure that empowers Thailand 4.0 to deliver solutions tailored to the diverse needs of various sectors. Research outcomes are leveraged to tackle pressing challenges, promote sustainable development, and yield tangible positive impacts on both the economy and society.

Strategic directions for research, development, and innovation to address national priorities

MTEC is committed to systematically advancing technological capabilities in materials by formulating comprehensive technology development, research, and delivery plans. This involves leveraging Technology/Research S-curves to guide evaluations, resource allocation, and operational planning. By generating research outputs in diverse forms, including articles, prototypes, and intellectual property, MTEC aims to achieve commercial and societal benefits. Patent filing and approval

  1. Intellectual Property Filing:
    – Filed a total of 54 applications for intellectual property, comprising:
    – 27 patent applications
    – 25 petty patent applications
    – 2 trade secret applications
  2.  Granted a total of 91 intellectual property registrations, consisting of:
    – 44 patent registrations
    – 47 petty patent registrations
    (with permission granted to utilize the rights from the intellectual property for the benefit of 45 matters).

Business and technology transfer
MTEC fosters a collaborative environment where research and business development teams engage closely with government agencies, the private sector, and communities to drive innovation and societal impact. To bridge the gap between research and real-world applications, MTEC actively disseminates knowledge from its research findings, enabling entrepreneurs, communities, and society to solve problems and make informed decisions. In summary, the results are as follows:

  • Delivered products from the project to uplift 7 communities through Science, Technology, and Innovation
  • Delivered products from joint research/contract research/consulting projects from solved 69 problems
    for entrepreneurs.
