MTEC Joins Thailand Pavilion Side Event at COP30, Showcasing Progress in Greenhouse Gas Reduction

Belém, Brazil (November 10–21, 2025)

The National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) —represented by Dr. Jitti Mangkalasiri, a researcher at the Technology and Informatics Institute for Sustainability (TIIS) and Deputy Director of the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMU-B), joined the Thailand delegation at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30). Invited by the Department of Climate Change and Environmental Quality under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Dr. Jitti presented Thailand’s climate change initiatives during the 11-day conference.

On this occasion, Dr. Jitti participated in a side event at the Thailand Pavilion titled “Carbon Accounting 2.0: Accelerating Transparency and Trust on the Road to Net Zero 2050,” held on the morning of November 19, 2025 (Brazil local time).

The panel featured experts from diverse organizations, including the Office of the National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO), PAC Corporation (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage. The discussion focused on the critical importance of transparent carbon data, specifically how technology and innovation can integrate multi-level data with national standards. This integration aims to bolster the credibility and transparency of carbon accounting mechanisms while unlocking new business opportunities.

During the event, Associate Professor Dr. Toemsak Srikhirin, the Executive Director of MTEC, emphasized the importance of materials science research and innovation in enhancing the value of Thai natural rubber. He highlighted that the conference serves as a vital platform for translating lab research into practical industrial applications, thereby supporting both economic growth and environmental sustainability.

At COP30, Thailand— represented by the Department of Climate Change and Environment (DCCE) along with various partner agencies —hosted the Thailand Pavilion to highlight the country’s climate initiatives. Under the theme “When Nature Thrives, We All Survive,” the pavilion showcased exhibits structured around the “5C” framework: Climate Policy, Climate Action, Climate Finance, Climate Resilience, and Climate Literacy.

The pavilion hosted over 30 side events and panel discussions, serving as a platform for academics, government officials, private sector representatives, youth delegates, and international organizations to collaborate and exchange knowledge. These activities underscored the collective effort across sectors to drive Thailand toward a low-carbon economy and a climate-resilient society.
