On June 25, 2026, the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), NSTDA, in partnership with the Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization) or CEA, hosted the event “PPWR Open House: Understanding the EU’s New Packaging Rules and Navigating Thai Businesses toward the European Market” at the Material and Design Innovation Center, TCDC Bangkok. This event aimed to enhance understanding of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and to prepare Thai entrepreneurs and designers to meet the European Union’s new standards.
At the event, MTEC researchers discussed packaging design in line with the PPWR. Dr. Nudjarin Ramungul gave a presentation titled “Designing Packaging to Comply with the PPWR,” explaining the key regulatory requirements and adaptation strategies. Dr. Kanjanawadee Singkronart introduced the Design for Recyclability Guideline and shared principles for creating plastic packaging that can be easily recycled. Dr. Witchuda Daud moderated the discussion and exchanged views with the participating businesses.
The program also featured industry case studies, including Huhtamaki’s Blueloop recyclable packaging innovation; Flexible Packaging Mono-Material from Prepack Thailand Co., Ltd., SCGP; and rice-straw packaging materials from Fang Thai Factory. The event concluded with a networking session and visits to exhibitors’ booths, giving entrepreneurs, designers, and researchers opportunities to exchange knowledge and explore further collaboration.
MTEC and its partner organizations have established the Thailand PPWR Consortium to support Thai businesses in aligning with the European Union’s PPWR requirements and to strengthen the competitiveness of Thailand’s export sector.
