On June 25, 2026, the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) organized the fourth MTEC Global Partnership Dialogue. The theme was “Innovation for Sustainability through Circular Economy: Global Perspectives and Research and Co-creation Opportunities.” The event took place in Meeting Room M506 at the MTEC Building, Thailand Science Park, and was also accessible online via Webex Webinar.
The event focused on exchanging knowledge and perspectives on global and regional trends in the circular economy, sustainability, and related policies. It aimed to deepen understanding of their roles and impacts on research and innovation, while also offering MTEC and NSTDA researchers a platform to share views and establish international collaborations. Dr. Asira Fuongfuchat, MTEC Deputy Executive Director, introduced Dr. René van Berkel, the guest speaker, and gave opening remarks. The event continued with a special lecture by Dr. René van Berkel, a renowned expert in the circular economy, resource efficiency, and innovation, with over 35 years of experience as an international development specialist and academic.
Dr. René van Berkel is the Principal Circular Economy Expert for the EU SWITCH-Asia Policy Support Component and co-founder and co-convenor of the ASEAN Circular Economy Business Alliance (ACEBA). He also teaches at Thammasat University’s International College and is a member of the International Resource Panel. In a special lecture, he shared his insights and experience on the circular economy, sustainability, and international collaboration. He engaged with MTEC researchers and attendees to discuss opportunities for research, innovation, and future partnerships. The seminar drew 40 participants both onsite and online, including private sector representatives, university members, and NSTDA researchers. Attendees exchanged insights, perspectives, and ideas to promote the circular economy and sustainability at organizational, national, and regional ASEAN levels.
