On March 17, 2025, the National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), collaborated with the Department of Primary Industries and Mines (DPIM) to host a seminar at the Sukosol Hotel in Bangkok. Held in Kamolthip Room 2, the semiar titled “Pathway to a Low-Carbon Industry: Promoting and Advancing Sustainable Primary Industries,” focused on non-ferrous metal industries, such as aluminum, lead, brass, tin, and copper. Dr. Sarawut Lerspalungsanti, Deputy Director of MTEC, provided welcoming remarks and an introduction to the project, followed by an opening address from Ms. Araya Salaipeth, Deputy Director-General of DPIM, who also presided over the ceremony.

The seminar featured informative presentations by experts. Following an introduction to the project, “Promoting and Advancing Primary Industries Toward a Low-Carbon Future,” Dr. Jitti Mungkalasiri and Ms. Wanwisa Thanungkano from the TIIS research team presented updates on the current status and related measures regarding greenhouse gas emissions and their impacts for Thailand’s non-ferrous metal industries.

Dr. Naruethep Lecksiwilai, an carbon footprint evaluation expert, then presented on “Strategies for Evaluating the Carbon Footprint of Non-Ferrous Metal Products.” Following him, Dr. Rittikrai Sirichaivetkul, the project leader, discussed methods for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the industry and outlined the application process for interested parties.

The seminar offered industry operators a platform to share insights on current and emerging greenhouse gas challenges, including crucial measures and future trends. A significant opportunity arising from the project is the provision of free carbon footprint assessments for the products of 10 selected companies. Moreover, 3 companies will benefit from in-depth expert consulting to facilitate the adoption of greenhouse gas reduction strategies.
