National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), led by Dr. Asira Fuangfuachart, Deputy Executive Director of MTEC and Thailand’s Focal Point, participated in the 55th Meeting of the ASEAN Sub-Committee on Materials Science and Technology (SCMST-55) on 20 October 2025. The meeting was held under the 88th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI-88).
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Sengphet Keokangdong, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Laos who acted on behalf of the SCMST Chair in his capacity as Vice-Chair. He warmly welcomed delegates from ASEAN Member States, including Brunei Darussalam, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, as well as a representative from the ASEAN Secretariat who attended as an observer.
The objective of the meeting was to enhance regional collaboration in the field of materials science and technology. Delegates from each Member State presented progress updates on ongoing activities and projects. The meeting also served as a platform to discuss new collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening technological capacity and fostering policy exchange in science, technology, and innovation across the ASEAN region.
Furthermore, on 21 October 2025, ASEAN delegates also attended the Joint Meeting of Sub-Committee on Materials Science and Technology and Sub-Committee on Sustainable Energy Research (SCMST – SCSER Joint Meeting) to prepare for the upcoming consolidation of the two sub-committees in the following year. During the meeting, discussions focused on the transition of ongoing and planned initiatives under the current sub-committee structures, to ensure continuity and effective integration into the future unified framework.
