March 21 – 22, 2018 – Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel Bangkok, Thailand.

Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) by National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) organized an interactive workshop on “Failure and Corrosion Prevention Strategy for Aging Infrastructure in Public and Industrial Sectors Workshop” during 21-22 March 2018 within ASEAN NEXT 2018 in Thailand.

This workshop covered the topics of infrastructure from public and industrial sectors such as railroad, petrochemical plant, gas transmission pipeline, steel reinforced concrete, and steel structures. Lectured by international-renown speakers whose expertise in failure analysis and corrosion fields, included two keynote speakers from Taiwan, Japan and many invited speakers from ASEAN such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, and Thailand. Through the workshop, the technical challenges on deteriorated infrastructures due to tropical climate, natural disasters, and unreliable construction design or maintenance were addressed, which covered case studies and prevention strategies for gaining infrastructure safety. It also established an international platform for future collaboration.

The event was attended by over 70 participants including experts in failure analysis and corrosion from construction companies and governmental agencies and infrastructure owners. The workshop provided an arena to exchange knowledge and experiences with international experts, and strengthened the capability of conducting systematic failure investigation and monitoring for complex failure phenomena.
